Information Architecture in One Day.

Information architecture is the way we arrange the parts of something to make it understandable. It determines whether or not users are successful in finding desired information and completing tasks. Information architecture is a critical, often-overlooked area of user interface design. Without a well- planned information hierarchy, designers risk creating applications and sites that are confusing or make content virtually inaccessible.

This one day training introduces the core components of a good information architecture, as well as essential information architecture design concepts, methods and strategies. A series of exercises let you apply and practice new principles and techniques.

If you want to discover the main information needs and top tasks of your users and want to help your users effectively move through a complex system, site or application, this training is for you.

This program requires basic knowledge of the design thinking process and design research.

YOU'LL WALK AWAY KNOWING HOW TO:
  • Describe the benefits of information architecture.
  • Analyse information requirements and carry out a content audit.
  • Build a useful, usable, and extensible information architecture.
  • Test your information architecture.
TOPICS COVERED:
  • What is information architecture?
  • The five components of information architecture.
  • Research methods: content inventory, affinity diagramming and card sorting.
  • Information architecture design patterns.
  • Best practices for information architecture design.
  • Testing an information architecture.

Content precedes design. Design in the absence of content is not design, it’s decoration.
